The passing of two trains
breaks the crisp quiet of the morning air. We are track side at bridge
number six on the Union Pacific Railroad’s busy main line through the
Wasatch Mountains. Locomotive number 3901 leads an eastbound freight over
the Weber River and a CA-1 Caboose brings up the rear of a westbound
freight. Locomotive number 3901 is a "Challenger" type engine. This type
of engine was designed to pull heavy loads in mountainous territory. This
scene depicts activity on the Union Pacific Railroad in the 1940’s. This
location is Near Morgan, Utah (about 25 miles east of Ogden, Utah). In a
few moments the trains will have passed and the quiet will return to Round
Valley.
