The United States of America has been attacked by Japan
and all of America's resources, including the Oahu Railway, have been called
to arms. It is 1943 and engine number 76 is working its way through
the maintenance facility in Honolulu. Wartime restrictions and
directives are in place. The engine's headlight has been blacked out
and many of the local industries have camouflaged their buildings. One
holdout is the famous pineapple water tower at the Dole factory.
Engine number 76, formerly named "Reciprocity", was out-shopped in 1897 by
Baldwin. The Reciprocity will serve the country and railway throughout
the war. The role this little engine and its stable mates played to
fight and win this war was integral. Eventually peace will be restored
to this island paradise and steam and the Oahu Railway will give way to
other transportation technologies. Reciprocity and the Oahu Railway
served above and beyond the call of duty!
